Natural gas, as an efficient and clean energy source, is widely used in industrial production and residential applications. Valves, as key control components in natural gas transmission and distribution systems, have a direct impact on system safety and stability through their installation quality. During installation, care must be taken to prevent oil, dust, and debris from entering the valve interior, especially for high-precision sealing valves. The construction site should be kept clean, and temporary protective sealing should be applied when necessary.

IV. Inspection and Commissioning After Installation

1. Air Tightness Test

After installation, an air tightness test must be conducted. Compressed air or nitrogen is typically used to check for leaks at all connection points and within the valve body. The use of open flames for leak detection is strictly prohibited.

2. Opening and Closing Function Test

Valves should be operated multiple times to ensure smooth and flexible movement without jamming. It is also necessary to verify sealing performance in both fully open and fully closed states.

3. System Integration Commissioning

Before the natural gas system is put into operation, integrated commissioning should be conducted to ensure coordinated operation between valves and other equipment (such as pressure regulators and metering devices), preventing pressure fluctuations or system abnormalities.

V. Precautions for Natural Gas Valve Installation

1. Explosion-Proof and Safety Requirements

Natural gas is flammable and explosive, so strict safety regulations must be followed during installation:

  • Open flames are strictly prohibited

  • Explosion-proof tools must be used

  • Adequate ventilation must be ensured

2. Anti-Corrosion and Protection Measures

For outdoor or corrosive environments, valves should be treated with anti-corrosion measures, such as applying protective coatings or using stainless steel materials. Protective covers should also be installed to prevent rainwater and dust ingress.

3. Regular Maintenance and Inspection

Valve installation is not a one-time task. A regular inspection system should be established, including:

  • Checking sealing performance

  • Lubricating moving components

  • Tightening connection parts

VI. Common Problems and Solutions

1. Valve Leakage

Common causes include damaged sealing surfaces, improper installation, or gasket failure. Solutions include replacing sealing components, reinstalling the valve, or adjusting tightening force. It is also important to check for pipeline stress concentration or misalignment, as these factors may cause uneven force on the valve over time, leading to leakage. Regular leak detection is recommended to identify potential risks early and prevent escalation.

2. Difficult Valve Operation

This may be caused by internal blockage or insufficient lubrication. Cleaning, lubrication, or replacement of damaged parts is recommended. Additionally, check for stem bending or corrosion, as well as excessive packing gland tightness, all of which can affect operational flexibility. Valves that have not been used for a long time should be pre-operated and inspected before use to prevent sudden seizure.

3. Abnormal System Pressure After Installation

This may result from incorrect valve selection or improper installation direction. Design parameters should be rechecked and corrected accordingly. It is also necessary to investigate whether other system equipment (such as pressure regulators) is malfunctioning or if there are blockages within the pipeline. Monitoring pressure at different points in the system can help identify the root cause and enable targeted solutions.

The installation of natural gas valves is a highly technical and safety-critical task that must strictly follow established standards. From preparation and installation to inspection and maintenance, every step is essential. Only by ensuring high installation quality can the long-term safe and stable operation of natural gas systems be guaranteed, providing reliable support for both industrial production and daily life.
